Day Tripping

While staying at The Redwoods In Yosemite, you will discover some of the world's most spectacular mountain and valley scenery. Here are a few of our favorite day tripping adventures, which will take you to these Park highlights:

  • Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in North America, and the 5th highest free-falling waterfall in the world at 2,425 feet.
  • The Grizzly Giant in the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is one of the world's largest and oldest trees, almost three thousand years old and 96 feet around at the base.
  • El Capitan is one of the largest exposed granite monoliths in the world, standing 3,593 feet from base to summit.
  • Tuolumne Meadows, at 8,575 feet elevation, is the largest sub-alpine meadow in the Sierra Nevada.
  • Established in 1935, Badger Pass Ski Resort offers vacationers five lifts, nine downhill runs, and miles of cross-country skiing.
  • The high Sierra at its best, Glacier Point, has breathtaking views of the Valley floor and spectacular waterfalls.
  • Historic Wawona, known as Pallahchun - a good place to stay - by native Americans, at the south end of Yosemite National Park.

Yosemite National Park

The wealth of scenic wonders and recreational opportunities are not limited to Yosemite's boundaries. Easy day trips from your cabin at The Redwoods In Yosemite can take you to the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway, Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, Bass Lake, the historic Gold Country town of Mariposa, Fresno Flats Historical Park in Oakhurst, and the Sierra Mono Indian Museum in North Fork. Check our Favorite Links page for several great area trip planning sites. Yosemite National Park, at 748,542 acres, is roughly the size of the State of Rhode Island, with over 94% designated wilderness. When estimating driving times from Wawona to various park destinations, allow at least 1 hour for every 30 miles, as you will be traveling on scenic mountain roads with a 35 mph speed limit.
